Position Title: CNC Machinist/Programmer 

Position Type: TTH or Direct Hire 

Pay: $30 – $38/HR

Location: River Grove, IL 

Shift: 1st shift 8am – 4pm Monday – Friday

Position Overview: 

This position has an overall responsibility to perform complex machining and fitting of all kinds  of parts, tools and machines by programming and using CNC equipment in support of production  operations or job shop machining.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Without supervision, write, edit, run programs to set-up and operate CNC and manual  machines for the complex machining, parts and fittings including very close tolerances or  unusual requirements 

  • Identify machine tools, feeds, speeds and set-ups in order to reduce possible scrap parts and  prevent machine damage then monitor and take preventative action as needed 

  • Take measurements of parts and ensure they meet specifications. Understand the use of  Statistical Process Control (SPC) and apply it to machining operations. 

  • Perform first piece inspection for products produced and for other machinists as needed 

  • Debur and perform other secondary operations as needed 

  • Teach other machinists how to program and edit programs for the CNC equipment that we  have in the shop. 

  • Look for opportunities to reduce costs by utilizing CNC equipment to combine operations  from multiple machines into one CNC machine. 

  • Meet the estimated job times as set forth in the standards or estimates for the job being run

  • Meet the due dates as set forth on the Job Traveler 

  • Maintain a neat work environment using 5S and Lean techniques 

  • Work with others in a team environment 

  • Communicate effectively with shop manager and associates when there are questions,  uncertainty and during normal processes to ensure quality product built right the first time 

 

General Job Knowledge: 

  • Knowledge of how to use all hand tools involved in machining and measurement 

  • Understands and can effectively use calibration and measurement devices 

  • 5+ years experience programming Haas vertical and horizontal Haas Mills, Haas Lathes, Mori Seiki Lathes, and/or Ycm Lathes with live tooling

  • Must be able to write CNC programs – prefer GibbsCam experience. 

  • Previous experience/knowledge writing programs for CNC machines

  • Understands proper methods to program, set-up and run manual lathes, mills, drills and CNC  equipment 

  • Can perform progressive machining operations for metal parts, tools and machines with tight  tolerances 

  • Has familiarity working with various materials including carbon steel, stainless and  aluminum 

  • Knows how to read drawings, work instructions

  • Good knowledge of feeds, speeds, inserts, machine tools 

  • Knows how to physically lift, move parts and use the hoist if part is too heavy to move manually 

  • Able to read and understand drawings work instructions, identify products and other documentation pertinent to this position 

  • Able to take measurements and record them  

  • Knowledge of how to use Statistical Process Control (SPC) 

  • Willing to learn new skills, expand knowledge and seek personal development. 

  • Takes  initiative to understand and propose improvements with machining applications and with other areas of the organization when called upon. 

  • Willing to learn and execute Lean processes and identify areas for improvement 

  • Willing to use ISO9001 procedures and work instructions 

  • Willing to assists and train other machinists when called upon 

  • Helps to maintain and improve the work environment

Additional Experience and Requirements: 

  • Must speak English 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in CNC machining and CNC programming

  • Able to manually lift and move items up to 50 pounds 

  • Eyesight must be good enough to meet responsibilities as detailed above
